There are also a number of small outsta􀆟ons\u003cbr\u003earound Yuendumu. These include Yuwali (Bean Tree),\u003cbr\u003eWakurlpa, Purturlu (Mt. Theo), Jirla (Chilla Well), Yarripirlangu,\u003cbr\u003eWayililinpa, and many more.\u003cbr\u003eThere are many sites around Yuendumu that are associated\u003cbr\u003ewith different ‘Jukurrpa’ (Dreamings). These sites include a\u003cbr\u003emajor ‘yunkaranyi Jukurrpa’ (honey ant Dreaming), which\u003cbr\u003etravels from the west to the east. Yuendumu is some􀆟mes also\u003cbr\u003ecalled ‘yurrampi’ (honey ant) for this reason.\u003cbr\u003eA very big ‘ngapa Jukurrpa’ (water Dreaming) travels past\u003cbr\u003eYuendumu from the south far to the north. This Jukurrpa stops\u003cbr\u003eat Warlura, a waterhole 8 miles east of Yuendumu, and at\u003cbr\u003eJukajuka, an important rock formation. ‘Warlukurlangu\u003cbr\u003eJukurrpa’ (fire country Dreaming) lies to the west of\u003cbr\u003eYuendumu, on the way to Nyirrpi. You can see the ‘warlu’ (fire)\u003cbr\u003ein the form of hundreds of red ‘mingkirri’ (termite mounds)\u003cbr\u003ethat rise out of the ground in this area.\u003cbr\u003eOther Jukurrpa around Yuendumu include a ‘janganpa\u003cbr\u003eJukurrpa’ (brush-tailed possum [Tricosurus vulpecula]\u003cbr\u003eDreaming) associated with the hills to the north, and a ‘yankirri\u003cbr\u003eJukurrpa’ (emu [Dromaius novaehollandiae ] Dreaming)\u003cbr\u003eassociated with Ngarlikirlangu, a rock formation to the north. A\u003cbr\u003e‘warlawurru Jukurrpa’ (wedge-tailed eagle [Aquila audax]\u003cbr\u003eDreaming) is associated with the Wakurlpa outstation and hills.\u003cbr\u003eA very big ‘warna Jukurrpa’ (snake Dreaming) passes through\u003cbr\u003eMijirlparnta (Mission Creek), west of Yuendumu. This Jukurrpa\u003cbr\u003etells the story of a blind and crippled python, Yarripiri, who was\u003cbr\u003ecarried by the ‘kurdungurlu’ (custodians) of the Jukurrpa from\u003cbr\u003ethe south to the far north. This Jukurrpa is associated with the\u003cbr\u003eimportant Jardiwarnpa conflict resolution ceremony.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll the sites around Yuendumu are owned and cared for by\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003edifferent skin subsections and are associated with different\u003cbr\u003eJukurrpa. Some people are ‘kirda’ (owners) of the Jukurrpa,\u003cbr\u003eand others are ‘kurdungurlu’ (custodians).\u003cbr\u003eIn Warlpiri paintings, traditional iconography can be used to\u003cbr\u003erepresent the landscape around the area, the Jukurrpa, and\u003cbr\u003eother elements. Pain􀆟ngs of Jukurrpa around Yuendumu can\u003cbr\u003einclude emu tracks, possum tracks, or eagle tracks.
